CITY DEFEATS PONSONBY. One of the fastest and most interesting Eugby League matches this season resulted in the meeting of City and Ponsonby at Victoria Park on Saturday. Each team wok the lead in turn, City finally winning by, a one-point margin, the scores being 13 points to 12. Both teams were well represented. Play from the start ,off was even, Hie advantage reverting from side to side. Ihe first score came to City, Wetherell snapping up the ball almost on the line and scoring between the posts. From the. restart Ponsonby livened up, and a fine passing iush culminated with Jones scoring in an easy position. Ctosb converted, thus equalising the scores. Ponsonby again entered their opponents' twenty-five, where Martin marked the ball. Cross taking the kick successfully. City now commenced to press, but had failed to score again when the whistle went for half-time. The second half opened with City, on the attack aeain. From a loose rush Jones secured and scored, Cross converting, and again giving Potsonby the lead. The play now became very fast, City straining every effort to score. Towards the end of the half, Clarke took a pasii from Mitchell and crossed the line. The kick failed.
