FALKENHAYN'S OPPONENT.
LONDON, August 8. Comitenttng on the report that General von Falkenhayn has assumed charge of the Turkish forces, and has inspected the Syrian front, the London Daily Telegraph says:— is significant that he has been sent such a distance to encounter Sir Edmund Allenby. The selection is Easily explained. The German General Staff undoubtedly consider that it would be most inconvenient for the Kaiser's plans if the victor of—Arras should also achieve the conquest of Palestine.
