" THE BATTLE OF THE ANCRE." Labge audiences were present at the ■town Hall at both screenings, of the war Picture, "The Battle -of the Ancre," yesterday. The picture cannot fail to leave strong impressions in the minds of all who witness it. A good idea of some of the difficulties which confront the men in France is given, and the scenes dealing with the transport system give a hint of the immense organisation necessary in dealing with a modern army. Mr. G. J Garland presided at last evening's presentation, and Mr. W. A/Hitchinson gave a character skekh from a true story of the trenches. The last two- days are announced.

TIVOLI. THEATRE. The current programme at the Tivoli Iheatre continues to attract large audiences each evening, the quality of the pictures screened being greatly, appreciated by the many patrons of this popular theatre. A famous Playors-Lasky production, "Batty to the Rescue," occupies the leading position, and is supported by a number of Z & £*r± nd , entertaining features. A *atty Arbuckle comedy, in particular, provides ample amusement for even the most critical picture-goer. '* Betty to the Kescue i s a charming love story, and contains numerous delightful scenes and' situations. Fanny Ward, in the leading role, is given ample scope for her histrionic ability, and gives an excellent interpretstion of a somewhat difficult part. This programme will be screened for the last time to-morrow, evening. On Saturday another Lasky production entitled "On Record" will be*presented for the first time. This picture is a drama of the aviation police force, and should provide something of an original nature. The captivating «little actress Mae Murray will i appear at the head of the cast, and will j be assisted by other well-known plavers.

PRINCESS THEATRE. " The Dawn of Love" is proving extremely popular at the Princess Theatre this t week. The fine character-acting of Mabel Taliaferro is to a great extent the cause of the picture's success. Good acting and a picturesque setting characterise the play, and the sensational element is not lacking. OTHER ENTERTAINMENTS. "The Millionaire Vagrant" is.the principal feature of an attractive "programme of pictures at the 'Strand Theatre this r week.
