Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 23. The amount of the credit vote to be asked for this week will be £650,000,000.
This credit vote will bring the total for the war period to £5,292.000,000.

LONDON, July 23.
A German communique states: —An artillery battle raged all night long in Flanders. Air squadrons- unsuccessfully attacked our balloons. We brought down eight aeroplanes. The enemy vigorously attacked between Avion and Mericourt, south of Lens. We equalised the enemy's success. We attacked on the northern pslope of Winterberg, north of the Aisne, and carried several lines of trenches on a front of half a mile.
