DEVONPORT COUNCIL.

'BUS SERVICE CURTAILMENT.

Tub Devonport Borough Council met last evening. Present:—The Mayor. Mr. J. Henderson, and Messrs. J. P. Wright, C. J. Smith. W. S. Stone, F. A. Thompson. I. J. F. etcher, W. K. Howitt, and J. A. Walker.

-v curtailment of the motor-bus service was submitted for approval by the Devonport. Steam Kerry Company, which stated that the deletion of some trips between 9 am. and -1 p.m. was necessary on account of the shortage of motor fuel.

The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee with power to act. It was decided that the committee should consider it on Monday evening in conference with a representative of the Ferry Company. The matter of the formation of a fire board for Devonport, which, it was stated, would mean the striking of a special rate, was referred to the Fire Brigade Comtrtittce.

It was resolved to draw the attention of tv-e police to the reported misuse of the Vaushnll bathing sheds. It, was decided to state, in reply to communications, that improvement work to Victoria Road wou'd be commenced as soon as possib'e: that the wash-out in Princess Street would be repaired in the near future, and lhnt the footpath in Kerr Street would receive attention at the earliest opportunity.
