POLICE COURT NEWS.
GUILTY OF THEFT OF TEA. As elderly man, Thomas R. Cantell (Mr. Moody), pleaded guilty in the Police Court before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., yesterday, to stealing 71b of tea from a shed on the Queen's Whrvrf. Chief-Detec-tive McMabon stated that accused was employed to repair damaged cases. After he had been repairing a case of tea a quantity was found to be missing. Accused denied stealing it at first, but subsequently admitted it. Counsel said accused wan a married man, and had never been in any trouble before. Accused took the tea, because, when the case burst, he could not get it all back. Accused wan prohibited and admitted to probation for two years. MAN AND WIFE IMPRISONED. Ernest C. Millar pleaded not guilty to living on the earnings of a woman of illfame. Evidence wa.s given by constables as to the movements in the street of accused and his wife, and other circumstances. Accused denied the allegations, and said that, knowing the woman's character, he had married her to reform her. A sentence, of six months' imprisonment was imposed. The wife, Margaret J. Millar, on a charge of loitering for improper purposes, was similarly dealt with.
