MARSDEN LICENSING BENCH.
NEW LICENSE REFUSED. [BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT) WHANG AREI. Wednesday. Thb adjourned annual meeting of the Marsden Licensing Committee was held yesterday. Mr. E. W. Burton, SM., presiding. The only business dealt with concerned the proposed new accommodation hotel at Oakleigh, near Mangapai. It was proposed to raise the status of the Poroti Hotel to a publican's license, using the license from Kamo Springs Hotel, which has not been renewed for this purpose. This would free an accommodation license from Poroti, which would be utilised for Oakleigh. W. E. McCutcheon applied for elevation of the Poroti Hotel to a publican's license status.
Mr. W. A. Carruth, for applicant, said this was a well-known house, put up originally with the idea of becoming a firstrate hotel. The "accommodation was ample No objection had been filed. The committee decided to grant the application. Peter Armstrong then applied for an accommodation license for a new hotel at Oakleigh. The hearing of this application was protracted, as there was a considerable opposition from a number of residents, and the case ended late last night, the Bench deciding to refuse the application.
