DAMAGING A MOTOR-CAR.

A chaege of wilfully damaging a motorcar, the property of W. C. Russell, was, preferred against a youth named Malcolm F. Reid in the Police Court verierday before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M."

Chief-Detective McMahon said the accused, who was employed by Mr. Russell, had taken the car and driven to Gladstone Street. Arriving there, he had removed a wheel and commenced experimenting on the tyre and inner tube. When apprehended by the police, damage to the extent of £25 10s had been done. The chief detective eaid the youth's character was not bad. Home influences were lacking, and he had been drifting into the company of loose associates. What he really required was strict supervision. The Rev. F. R. Jeffries, probation officer, who endorsed the chief detective's remarks, favoured probation if rigid conditions were attached. The magistrate placed the youth on probation for three years, and ordered him to make foil restitution of the amount of damage done to the car.

On the application of Sub-Inspector Broberg, the case was remanded until June 10. Bail was allowed in one surety of £50.
