WARNING BY JAPAN. RECENT REPORT DENIED. (Received 9.15 r — ) WASHINGTON, June 8. The Japanese Embassy denies the truth of the report that Japan warned the Russian Government that measures would be taken if Russia abandoned the war. The State Department shows a disposition to ascribe such reports to German influence seeking to create distrust amongst the allies.
A cablegram from New York, dated June 6, stated: The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says he has learned that Japan has informed the Russian Government that if Russia withdraws from the war, Japan, in consultation with Britain, will consider what measures to take. She is determined to stand by her allies until Germany is defeated, and warns Russia that a separate peace would leave Russia helplessly under German domination.
