BRITISH LABOUR MISSION

VISIT TO PETROGRAD. NO POLITICAL IMPORT. (Received 115 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. June 8. Mr. Hutchinson, of the Engineers Union, declined the invitation of the Labour Executive to go to Stockholm and Petrogn'.d. The Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Unions Congress decided to send two representatives to Petrograd in order to advise the Russians as to British trade union methods. The visit will be in nowise political, and the delegates will not go to Stockholm.

Mr. Culling Carr, secretary of the British Empire Union, writing to tha Morning Post, asks: " Has it struck Australians, South Africans, New Zealanders, and Canadians that the Government i:i sending to Stockholm and Petrograd a revolutionary nonentity of the name of Ramsay Mac Donald as representative of British Labour Democracy in Parliament, and that Mac Donald states that he carries a mandate promising peace based on no indemnities, no reparation, and no annexations ? This means that South-west Africa, the Cameroons, New Guinea, and German West Africa will be handed back to the Germans as a reward for murdering our women and children. America and France refused passports to their peace cranks. Why is the Government of the British Empire halting between two opinions?"
