FARMER'S BANKRUPTCY.
DEBTOR FAILS TO APPEAR. ' The adjourned meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of John Lawless, fanner, formerly of Tokatoka, but now of Kihikihi, was held at the official assignee's office yesterday morning. Despite the bankrupt's statement that he had only one .creditor to whom about £97 was owing,, several other creditors were present. Thei bankrupt did not put in an appearance. The assignee informed the creditors that c. summons had been served on June 2, and advised them that if they desired, proceedings could bo taken. One of the creditors Mr. R. H. Kidd, hotelkeeper of Aratapu, was examined al'» length as to his business transactions with the bankrupt. In reply to Mr. A. Moody, who appeared for one of the creditors, ho stated that although he had a power of attorney, authorising him to deal with tho bankrupt's property, he had not acted on that power. After a considerable amount of further discussion, the meeting adjourned sine die, to enable the issue of a warrant and thun ensure the attendance of the bankrupt.
