EARLY CLOSING AGITATION.
CHRISTCHURCH RESOLUTION. [BT telegraph.—PßESS ASSSOCIATKW.] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. A public meeting was held to-night in connection with the movement to reduce the hours of the sale of liquor. There was a fair attendance. The speakers were:— Mr. Holland (Mayor), Dean Carrington, and Messrs. J. T. Martin, F. Wilding, K. 0., G. T. Booth, A. S. Taylor and A. W. Beaven. Resolutions on the lines of those passed at Dunedin. urging the si* o'clock-closing of hotel bars and restrictions upon the importation, sale and manufacture of intoxicating liquor were carried. Another resolution was carried cordially supporting the National Efficiency Board in the important work it had undertaken and urging the Government" to consider and act promptly on its recommendations.
PUBLIC MEETING IN WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON. Thursday. A large public meeting was held in the Town Hall to-night, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. Luke, presiding. Resolutions were carried by large majorities, urging the Government, in the interest of national efficiency and economy, to restrict the hours for the sale of liquor to from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
