WAR EFFECTS ON NEUTRALS
MANY STRIKES IN NORWAY.

The food situation in Norway is serious, and has resulted in a great popular demonstration throughout the country. The Government, in order to prevent riots, prohibited the sale of alcoholic liquor for three days. All restaurants arc closed and all shops and stores and schools shut. The gasworks and electricity plants are dosed. Almost all workmen are on strike. Work throughout Norway is practically at a standstill.
DANISH CONDITIONS.

A commission of the most prominent representatives of Danish trade and industry is visiting foreign countries to negotiate with the belligerents important questions affecting conditions of life in Denmark. The country is on the verge of catastrophe, and is suffering as much hardship as if it had been a belligerent.
SWEDISH AGITATION.
FIGHTING IN THE STREETS. Reuter. STOCKHOLM. June 6.
Speaking in the Riksdag, the Prime Minister, M. Carl Swartz, admitted the need of suffrage and industrial reforms, but "said the Government was too preoccupied with war problems to undertake them. Socialist and Liberal leaders referred to the universal democratic movement, and expressed regret that a golden opportunity was lost. During the debate the adjoining streets were barricaded. A largo crowd assembled, and a strong force of soldiers and mounted police was present. Collisions ensued, and stones were thrown. The police charged, injuring several persons.
