READY TO FIGHT AGAIN
BRITISH GAIN IN THE WEST « ROMANS' CHARGE ON THE CARSO GERMAN AIR RAIDERS PUNISHED
The Roumanian army has been reorganised and re-equipped, and is again ready to fight. The country is now better provisioned and the situation is described as having greatly Improved.
A break in the infantry inaction, on the western front is reported. The British were completely successful in a local attack north of the Scarpe, gaining positions on Greenland Hill on a front of a mile. The French have again caused German attacks north of the Aisne to end in costly failures.
The Austrians lost heavily in their counterattacks on the Carso Plateau on Sunday. Special assaulting troops forced the Italians back, but famous Romans of the Tiber Brigade leapt into the breach and fought the Hungarians desperately and implacably with bayonet and grenade.
The German aeroplane squadron which raided Essex was severely punished. It set out 18 strong. Two aeroplanes were brought down off the English coast. The squadron, now 16 strong, was engaged off Ostend by naval airmen from Dunkirk and two aeroplanes were destroyed and six others driven down out of control. Thus more than half the squadron was put out of action.
