SMALL STEAMER STRANDED.
DAMAGED THROUGH GROUNDING.
[bt telegraph.— association.] DTJNEDIN. Thursday. The coastal steamer Kotaro, while berthing at Curry's Wharf, Waikawa, yesterday morning, struck the ground and sprang a leak. Th« vessel was berthed without difficulty, but it was found later that she had made about a foot of water. Captain Hanning at first reported that the vessel bad not sustained serious damage, but examination of the hull at lowwater revelled the fact that the steamer's keelson was broken amidships. lie Kotare now lies on a level bottom, and her hold is full of water. Latest advice from the ra.-ster indicates that with suitable pumps the vessel can be refloated.
The Kotare is a wooden steamer of 20 horse-power, belonging to the Southern, Steamship Company, of Dunedin. Her gross tonnage is 141 and her draught is 6ift. 8
