HOUSES FOR SOLDIERS.
t WANGANUI PROPOSAL. USING PATRIOTIC FUNDS. [BT telegram.— correspoxdext.] WAKGANTJI. Saturday. The question of providing home* at a reasonable rent for soldiers and their families has been discussed by the local Patriots Association. It hag armoinU-d a committee to supervise the erection of a trial home, to be let at a rental of 5 per cent, on the cost, not exceeding; 12s 6d a week. It is agreed that if the experiment is successful many more homes will be built 0.1 similar lines. It was stated that this would be a financially safe investment for the association's funds, and as a matter of principle the association woild cany out its objects on most humane and liberal lines. It was mentioned that the association was at present paying rents for 14 families from 16s a week downwards, and that the wives of some soldiers were paying £1 a week.
