OPENING OF NEW RECRUITING CAMPAIGN IN BRITAIN.
APPEAL TO MEN UP TO THE AGE OF 50. ATTESTATION INVITED IN TWO AGE GROUPS. Australian and N.Z. Cable. (Received 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. The War Office announces the opening within a week or two of two new groups for voluntary attestation—one of men, married and single, not over the age of 45 ; the other for married and single men between the ages of 45 and 50. United Service- (Rocoived 7 p.m.) LONDON. May 11." The Daily Mail states that the War Office will presently appeal to every fit single and married man between the ages of 41 .and 50 to enlist under a new voluntary scheme. It is not intended to send these men to the front, but to use them behind the lines for auxiliary services, for home defence, and for making munitions in France and England The two Military Scrvico Acts of Britain make liable for servico all men between the ages of 18 and 41. The first, applying to single men only, was passed in January, 1916, and the second, applying to all men, was passed in May, 1916.
