QUESTION OF BILL-OF-SALE.
The adjourned meeting of creditors in th 9 bankrupt estate of T. C. Hawkins, mercer and clothier, of Ilotorua, was held at the office of the official assignee, Mr. W. S. Fisher, yesterday afternoon. Under examination, the bankrupt stated that, his father held a bill-of-sale over the stock, and that prior to the sale of the business his father agreed to the sale conditionally upon the proceeds being paid into his, tho father's, account. Considerable discussion took place regarding the bill-of sale, and as to whether creditors who had supplied goods prior to the giving of the bill-of-sale were entitled to regard their claims as preferential. Finally Mr. Buttle, representing several creditors, moved, "That the official assignee bo requested to obtain payment- of the proceeds of the salo of the stock, and, upon failuro to comply with the demand to obtain a legal opinion as to the validity or otherwise of the bill-of-sale." . Upon th' 3 application of Mr. Blomfiew, representing bankrupt's father, the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight, na resolution being allowed to stand over i 3 the meantime.
