Monday. j We Departmental proposals for the cur- | tailmentof.the railway services are now before the ' Cabinet, according; to a statement made 1 to-day by Mr. E. H. Hiley, the General Manager. ;.•',..--•-■:■■■ '. ;' It-is expected that the long distance express- train services will be. reduced by half,' only one" train; running on each of ' the Main Trunk lines daily from'' each terminal station. ; ; The suburban train services will be reduced to! the minimum required for the carriage" of passengers regularly gravelling between their homes and the cities in connection;with business or employment^; It is . also ; believed that all special trains in connection with V race meetings . and i' similar gatherings ■■ will bo discontinued. ;,An:increase in passenger fares is J anticipated.
