— :- ♦ . -^ OFFICERS MEET IN COUNCIL. The officers attending, the Salvation "Army North Island Congress . attended three sessions of councils yesterday, Commissioner Hodder presiding. ' .: ' ./.<y ,: The sessions were largely of a devotional arid inspirational character. ■ The commissioner read a statement concerning the .work, among the troops, the Salvation Army chaplains on active service, and Salvation Army officers in the firing-line as soldiers. ■ ; Statistics submitted revealed a v | gratifying : improvement in *• New ■' Zealand, particularly : ; : /;'inW respect ' to work "among the young people and in - regard to the attendances at army services, these .constituting a record in each ; case. -. Addresses ■ were delivered by Commissioner Hodder on ''.!■' Incentives to Soulsaving - Work," : 'by: Major J. ; ; Toomer.. of the Central North Division, on "The Value of Personal Experience," and by /Brigadier .W. Gist, Training College Principal, on "Spiritual /''Awakenings and - the Qualities Required to Bring These About." i :■ The afternoon ~ session ..closed:/, with a sermon by the chief secretary, LieutenantColonel Mclnnes, on the text, "I sat where they sat," an injunction given tho prophet Ezekiel. The evening session was of a devotional character, addresses'. being delivered by Commissioner, ./Hodder.;•: Mrs. ■■/■' Hodder, and Lieutenant-Colonel Mclnnes, ■'/'.- \v These councils will bis continued to-day. In the evening, a public /young, people's demonstration will ;be held in the Town Jlall. ,' : Some thirty. Eltham boys, under Adjutant v • Scotney, ::; arrived ■■■ yesterday.
