WARFARE IN THE AIR.
■\ • ■'.;", "^—- ——' ■ NEW ZEALAND'S SHARE. FIVE AEROPLANES AT WORK. New Zealand is well represented in the Royal Flying Corps, having already presented five machines to tho War Office, from the following centres:—Hawke's Bay, Poverty Bay, Dunedin, Otago, and Auckland. In a communication just received by the Hon. Arthur Myers, president of the New Zealand Overseas Club, from Mr. Evelyn Wrench, the honorary organiser for tho club in London, it is pointed out that were the various other large centres of tho Dominion to co-oper-ate with the object of presenting a further five machines to tho War Office, New Zealand would then havo contributed a complete air squadron of her own. This New Zealand unit would be maintained I permanently as such by the Imperial I authorities; that is to say, should any | or all of the actual machines presented be i lost or destroyed, tho War Office would replace it and so keep tho New Zealand I Squadron intact. | The different parts of the Empire are all playing a worthy part in contributing to the strength of our air forces. Australia has presented to the War Office three complete aerial squadrons; Canada and South Africa have each sent Homo several machines; Malaya has given 45 aircraft; India some 70 or 80 aeroplanes; j whilst Newfoundland, tho Gold Coast, , Rhodesia, Ceylon, Hongkong, and many : other outposts of tho Empire have each : provided a number of fighting aeroplanes I in the common cause. The Overseas Club, to date, has presented 87 machines to the Imperial AirI craft Flotilla; whilst the sister organisai tion, the Patriotic Ixjague of Britons ■ Overseas, has given 30 aircraft to tho Admiralty. The importance of maintaining the Im- ! perial air fleets at maximum strength, | both during and after the present war, ! cannot, Mr. Myers points out, bo over- | estimated. I ~
