In the House of Lords, Baron Strathspey, drew attention to the hardship and injustice the dominions suffered under the double income . tax. Baron Denham supported him. Baron Hylton, in reply, said the Treasury would shortly reconsider the whole matter. He admitted there was practical hardship, but the same taxes were imposed on foreign countries. If the hardship were removed the Exchequer must suffer. The colonies, in this matter, wanted to have the best of both worlds. It must be remembered that the development of the do- ' minions had been secured in the first , | instance by "British capital, there-\ [fore, the dominions should consider! , Die question of making some com-] promise.
