Owing to the scarcity of labour in South Canterbury it has been found necessary to defer the opening of the Boys' High School at Timaru until February 14. The boys have been able this year to help considerably in the wool work on stations, and are now assisting the farmers in harvesting operations. A number of Invercargill schoolboys have spent their holidays in the shearing sheds, and are reported to have made large cheques. One, afraid -that' he had not passed a recent examination and being determined to have another year at school whatever the result of the teat, arranged with a local labour agent to work at three sheds in the Lakes district, and returned with £15 —more than sufficient for his educational requirements should ;' he - have fto jay, for his tuition at the school during the coming year.- 1 * .
