"ANZAC AVENUE" ADOPTED.

The renaming of Jermyn Street, the new eastern outlet for the traffic of the city, now in course of construction; lias been definitely decided upon After considering the adoption of the word Anzac, and also the names of prominent admirals and generals of the allied forces, the Finance and Legal Committee of the. City Council selected Jellicoe Street as the future name of the thoroughfare, and it made a recommendation to this effect to the City Council last evening.

When the report came up for consideration, Mr. A- J. Entrican moved, as an amendment, that the new Jermyn Street should be called Anzac Avenue, Anzac was a word that would live in. British memory, and he thought its adoption as the name of the street would be an appropriate memorial to the brave men "who had died at Gallipoli. Mr. H. N. Bagnall seconded the motion, and suggested that the adoption of Anzac Avenue would be a means of linking Auckland to the heroes of the Dardanelles.

The amendment was carried on the voices.

Other alterations adopted by the council were —Clifton Road to bo Awatea Road; Alfred Street, Remuera, to be Patey Street; Greenwood Avenue to be Larchwood Avenue; part of Chamberlain Street to be Wallingford Street; and Victoria Street, Grey Lynn, to be Edgar's Road.
