Owing to the confusion resulting from ft. fire, incorrect totalisator totals were given to the press representatives for the first day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club's rceetins The total handled yesterday was £37 433 Mi" compared with £40.251 10s on the first day of last year's meeting, a decrease of £2818 not a decrease of £10,848. as was telegraphed" list night. The investments on the Cup vector day amounted to £11.527 10s, which is » record sum for that race.
THE MELBOURNE CUP. The Flemington racecourse is apparently still in a flooded state as a result of torrential rains, for the Melbourne Cup, set down to be run on Tuesday last, remains in abeyance. Information to hand from Weilington states that it is hoped to bring oS tho second day's racing at Flemington. 0* Saturday, when the Melbourne Cup will form one of the items on the programme
