: THE RUGBY GAME.

SENIOR CADET MATCH,

The principal Rugby football match on Saturday, was that between a Goldfields senior cadet team and the representatives of the Auckland companies. The match was played in fine weather, and on a good ground at Epsom. The play was interesting throughout, and exciting towards the finish. The Goldfields fifteen war! by 13 Points to 12, A match was played at the Sacred Heart College grounds, Ponsonby, between the past and present pchorars. The latter won by 11 points to 9.

The match between the Goldfields and Auckland senior cadet teams was played at tho Show Grounds on Saturday. The scoring was opened by Gavin, who gained a, try for tho visitors in the first quartor. .With the object or establishing a fund with which to purchase a set of football jerseys for eijch of the schools competins under the auspices of the Auckland Public Schoplix Jtugby Union, the referees and school delegates have combined to work up a gala day for the boys. The gathering will be hold at Eden Park, on September 16, and it is attractive football and the ado of tickets—to raise a > considerable sum. A stronr committee, consisting of the whole of tho .Referees' Association, together with the ;folldwiny: Messrs. L- Sheppard, B. Mclnnes, T. Jones, H. Wooller, W. Edgerley, A,-Bell,'J. Vuglar, B. C. Moore, A. Sheppard, and Bro, Calixtus, has been set up to carry out an extensive programme. Mr. B. W. Hayson, Bavfiold School, hau been appointed organising secretary and treasurer. HAMILTON, Sunday. •"The Grammar School Old Boys', team mjit the Hamilton Rugby representatives at Stecie Park yesterday afternoon, the visitors winning by 16 points to 3. The game -was very interesting, and, at times, exciting, tho local side putting up a much better exhibition than was expected. Badeley scored the opening '.try. and, near the close of the second quarter Badeley var again the main factor in scoring three points. In the final quarter Nicholson scored a try, and McLean raised the major points. Then Galbraith got over in the corner and scored for tho home team. A number of footballers arrived here, last night by excursion steamer' from Auckland for tho purposo of treating the Thames public to an exhibition of League football. The chairman of the Auckland League, Mr. Benson, accompanied the teams as managor, and Mr. Thompson as referee. The Auckland City Brass Band, which travelled with the footballers, rendored a number of selections during the afternoon. Two matches were played between the Thames Old Boys and Richmond teams, and—as a curtain-raiser— Grafton fifths. Two matches were played miring the afternoon, the principal being that betwe.m the Thames Old Boys and Kicnmond teams.
