The Auckland Rugby Union's first grade < ompetition was brought to a close in fine weather on Saturday, when University A defeated Grammar School Old Boys B team j by 25 points to 3. and. thus secured the cham- ' pionship for the season. A match was played on Saturday bet-ween a. team representing the Frankton public school and a Cambridge High School team. The visitors won by 6 points to 0. HAMILTON RESULTS. [BY TELH'jRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Sunday. The games in the local Rugby competition were continued on Saturday, when High School was defeated by City by 12 points to 3. This is tho first time that the. school fifteen hap been defeated this season. In the other match St. Mary's defeated Old Boys by 8 points to 0. High School and St. Mary's have yet to meet in the second round <.f the competition. The first game resulted in a win for school by the narrow margin of 3 points to 0. but success to St. Mary's on this occasion will leave them and High School and City all in a line for the championship. The Hamilton representatives will play at Morrinsvillo next week, and on September 0 they will engage tho Grammar School Old Boys' team locally. On Saturday the High School team will visit Auckland. THE LEAGUE GAME. ROOPE ROOSTER COMPETITION. WON* BY CITY ROVERS. Tho final match in the Roopo Rooster competition, between City Rovers and Ponsonby United, attracted an attendance of almost. 5000 spectators to Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon. The day was fine overhead, but the turf was slippery as the result of tho morning rains, and a fairly strong wind was also a factor in the proceedings City Rovers won by 11 points to 5. and thus gained the double honour this sea son. CITY DEFEATS PONSONBY. rous-'uby won the, toss and decided to play with the wind. With its assistance a. strong attack was set up on City Rovers' line, but the champion team worked bark, and for some time the western team's line was in danger. Both lines were crossed, but tho ball was brought back on each occa?ion for infringements, and then, with Ponsonby on tho defence, McClymont broke clean through, and outpacing the City backs scored I'onsonbv's only try. Cross converted. and half-time arrived with Ponsonby leading by 5 points t<< 0. With the assistance of the wind. City attacked insistently, and it was not long before Clarke scored. This success was followed by a try by Davidson, and the latter shortly a'tcrwards kicked a penalty goal. I'onsonby defeated City by 12 points to 3. I THIRD GRADE. City defeated Sunn>=iHe l<v 0 points to 2, and won tho championship of the grade. FOURTH GRADE. North Shore defeated Nortlicote by default. THE ASSOCIATION" GAME. CLUB COMPETITIONS. The Auckland Football Association's club competitions were resumed mi Saturday ;n fine weather. In the first division matches North Shore defeated Everton by I goals to 1 and thus won the competition tor ths season. In the other senior match Richmond defeated Y.M.C.A. by 1 goals to 0. . NORTH SHORE V. EVERTON. The North Shore and Everton teams met at North Shore and the former team won by a substantial margin of goals. Everton played two men short. Tnnes, Jackson, Clark and an Everton back scored for the winners and Hillcoat for the losers. The game ended: — North Shore 1 •Everton 1 RICHMOND V. Y.M.C.A. The Richmond-Y.M.CA. match was played at the Domain and the former team won easily.
