ALIENS IN THE NORTH.

INTERNMENT PROPOSALS. FEELIITG IN DAKGAVILLE. [BY TELEGRAPH.press association.] D.iEGAvnxEj Wednesday. In regard to the alien trouble m the North of Auckland, the Kaipara Chamber of Commerce held a large and influential meeting yesterday, when much dissatisfaction was expressed at the Prime Minis-* ter's attitude. It was agreed that disloyal men should be interned, but these were a very small percentage, the remainder of the Slav population being peaceful, lawabiding, and industrious. If no satisfactory reply is forthcoming' from the Government, a public indignation meeting will be held at Dargaville at an early date. FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS. MOVEMENT IN AUCKLAND. Further representations are being made to the Prime Minister with regard to the proposed segregation of Austrian subjects. The question was discussed on Tuesday by a meeting of representatives of the kauri gum trade, at which both exporters and brokers were present. Mr. F. L. Gribbin presided. The meeting decided to appeal again to the Prime Minister to defer action regarding the segregation of Dalmatians until such time as country i storekeepers, and many others whose vital interests are concerned, have had an opportunity of laying their views fully before the Government. The meeting strongly supported the opinion that the segregation at Parenga, and the production [ of large quantities of low-grade black i qualities and a minimum of good white gums, will act most detrimentally on this important northern industry. The views j of the meeting have been communicated j to the Prime Minister by telegram.
