AUSTRIANS DENY AN ITALIAN VICTORY.

ADMIT THE SHORTENING OF THEIR LINE. SAY THEY LOST NO PRISONERS OR GUNS. (Received June 28. 11.45 p.s.) AMSTERDAM, JUpE 27. An Austrian communique states: " The shortening of our front between the Brenta and the Adige Rivers was completed on Monday. The Italians' claim of victories is completely untrue, as is proved by the following fact. On the night of the 25th a partial evacuation of our advanced trenches, which were on unfavourable terrain, began after a week's preparation. The Italians the following forenoon continued the bombardment of positions we had evacuated, and only at noon did Italian detachments timidly begin to move on some portions of our front, between the Astach and the Sugana Valley. The bombardment of evacuated trenches in the Adige sector continued the whole day and the following night. There was no fighting either day. We lost no prisoners, guns, machine-guns, or other war material. The Italians are now approaching our new positions. They attacked Montefesto on Monday morning, but were repulsed with heavy losses."
