MANY CATTLE DROWNED.
MOB WASHED OVER FALLS* SENSATION AT WAIEUA. , [BY TEIEGBAFH.OWN COBBESFOJfDENT.J Whaxgarei. Monday. A sensational accident occurred at Wairua Falls yesterday. It is reported that when a mob of 49 cattle was approaching the bridge across the river, some distance above the falls, the leaders took to the water. The drivers could not check the beasts, though they did their best with dogs and whips. It is said that the whole mob of mixed bullocks and cows was swept away by flood waters and carried over the fails. One was rescued alive at the power-house, over ' a mile lower down, and. as far as can b« learned, others have been also rescued. Telephonic communication is disorganised, and details cannot be verified.
