At Caterham on Saturday the New Zea- - i land fifteen played their return match * i with the Guards Depot, and won by 27 points to 6. Our men crossed the line nine ' times and failed to kick a single goal otherwise the score in their favour should have been much larger. The HornchuTcb men emerged from lbs match with all the honours in skilful forward work and in finished back plav. Jg took them three quarters of an hour to wear down the Guards' forwards, and then they delivered their attack with irresistible dash. In the first half, Burn.-, J£f s Griffiths, and Harding scored f..r the visitors, who led at the interval by 12 points to nil. On resuming, Park kicked off or the Blacks, and Baddeley fielded the return. Kicking high, he enabled the pack i to get control and carry play to "the I Guards' country where Lyon kicked out. The Guards' forwards brought play back but Cuff drove them away" with a good* field and kick oat. But the Guards were . not to be denied, and the forwards rushed | play to the Blacks' line, where Howell i picked up and went over to scc.e their I first try. The Guards continued to keep up the pace, and after loose play in the Blacks' country, Lyon dashed "through and scored. Baddeley's kick was marked by Martin, who kicked to Muir, end with Ovens picking up later, he dashed along line to half-way, where he was pushea c.'i. The Guards pressed from the throwin, but Guff cleared with a good kick, and Mair, drawing the defence, cross-kicked, Everett (Blacks) coming through to score the New Zealanders' fifth try. From this time onward the New Zealanders were masters of the game, and put on four more tries in quick succession —two, by Jeffs and one each by Bums and Muir. The teams were: — All Blacks : Cuff, Burns, Everett, Muir, (captain), Jeffs, Baddeley. Eraser, Uveas, Sheridan, Park, Hall, Harding, Brown," Fricker, Griffiths.
