POLICE COURT NEWS.

COUNTRY VISITOR ROBBED, A man named Kenneth Monro was charged) before Messrs. K. Maxwell and D. \V, McLean, J.P.'n, in the Poiioe Court yesterday morning, with stealing £1. Detective-Sergeant Mollis described tlia theft as a particularly mean one. On Good Friday Munro made the casual acquaintance of a man named Brown, who, with his wife, had come to Auckland to| spend Easter. Next mowing he went to whero the Crowns were staying, and in, Mr. Brown's absence falsely told Mrs. Brown that her husband had been locked up, and suggested to her that she should give him £1 with which to bail him out. The money was given to accused, ■who was not again seen until ho was arrested. The accused had a bad repm tation.

Muuro said he had been drinking, and did not know what h,e was doing when he committed the offence. He was convicted and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.

MISCELLANEOUS. Five Srst-oflending inebriates were convicted and fined ss. Two who did not; appear forfeited their bail, 103 in each case. Two men charged with breaches of prohibition orders were remanded until to-day. David Johnson, charged with being disorderly while drunk, was convicted and fined 10s. A fine of 10s was. imposed on Whitely Brandwood for committing a nuisance. Two men, John Wynn and Frederick Cross, wero charged with fighting in Queen Street on Monday night. Cross, who had previous convictions recorded against him, was fined £1, and Wynn was fined ss.
