FARMERS' CONFERENCE.

REMITS FROM EXECUTIVE.

COMPULSORY SERVICE.

The following remits from the Auckland executive of tho Farmers' Union are to bo submitted to tho provincial conference of the union, to be held in Auckland from May 24 to May 26 :-

That this conference desires to urge upon the Government the advisability of enacting the necessary legislation whereby compulsory military service can be put into operation whenever any necessity arises.

That occupiers of national endowment lands be granted tho option of purchasing the freehold, and that all such lands be thrown open on those terms as required. That native lands which benefit from tho expedituro of local rates should be placed on the same footing as regards such rates as land held by Europeans. That the system of charging extra rail freight on certain classes of imported goods bo abolished. That, for the purnoso of electing members of harbour boards, the counties should be grouped separately from the boroughs, every group having equal representation. That annual returns of cattlo should be made in the fame way as tho sheep returns.

That the. allocation for insulated shipping space should be based on the fat stock available in the different districts, and not on the freezing space as at present. That tho Dominion Executive bo asked to make arrangements to obtain copies of all proposed legislation affecting fanners, and to distribute anv information regarding same to the various provincial executives.

That this conference is of opinion that tho question of auctioneers' commissions should be seriously considered by farmers, and that there is no reason why such commissions should rule higher in this province than in the Southern districts, and that some steps should be taken to obtain more reasonablo and uniform rates.
