NEW HONOUR FOR AGA KHAN
SERVICE TO THE ALLIES.
RANK OF FIRST-CLASS CHIEF
London, April 13. His Majesty the King has conferred the rank and status of a first-class chief of the Bombay Presidency for life on Aga Khan, the head of.the Ismaili Mahommedans, with a salute of 11 guns. The honour is worthy of note, because the Aga Khan's authority is spiritual and not territorial. The recipient has rendered great servicesto the allies through his influence with the Moslems.
Aga Sultan Mahomet Shah, known as I His Highness the Aga Khan., is the spiritual head of the Khojah sect and the recognised leader of the Indian Mahomraedans. Almost considered a god by his own people, he. is well known and popular in London society, and was a personal friend of the late King Edward, who bestowed upon him all the principal Indian decorations. He attended the coronation of King George as the guest of the nation. Since the outbreak of the present war he has given unmistakable proof of his loyalty to the British nation. He recently issued a statement impressing upon all Mahommedans in India the necessity of adhering firmly to their old and tried loyalty to the British Government. On this account he was the subject of favourable mention by Lord Hardinge to the
Secretary of State for India..
