FIFTY YEARS AGO.
TREATMENT OF FLAX.
YET ANOTHER METHOD.
(From the HERALD of April 12, 1868.) We were yesterday shown a sample, of flax cleaned and divested of the gum by merely boiling it in tho soap suds remaining after the day's washing had been completed. The operator produced a fine clean samplo and said he could produce from a ton to 30c per week easily. Should this process bo found to be successful it seems about as cheap and simple as could bo desired. Mr. Dowhnrst, cf Parnell, showed His Honor the Superintendent a sample prepared in the above manner. We had a great number of people at our oflico yesterday to look at the sample produced by Mr. ay mouth, and they were highly delighted with it.
