CRICKET.
NOTES AND COMMENTS.
John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack for 1916 is to hand,, and one regrets to note its slender proportions. It is, in comparison with its normal self, a very email volume. The question _ of ceasing publication was seriously considered, but the proprietors decided sot to break the continuity of over half a century. No scores for 1915 are given except those for public school matches. The volume makes sad reading. It contains the obituary notices of W. G. Grace, A. E. Stoddart, Victor Trumper, and Sir Spencer Pon-aonby-Fane, Tho last-named died at tho age of 91 years, and bad visited Lord's lor over 80 years, the last time in 1913. He played for Surrey County and' Gentlemen of England. Many cricketers, have' given their lives for their country, and in the obituary notices one reads many names which revive memories of but recent deeds on cricket pitch, football field, running track, and tennis court.
