• • Sir,—lt has been stated tiiat matters ' between the Auckland Coastal Masters' Association and the owners were at a deadlock, and that the masters, _ owing to the war, were trying to reap in war profits. Statements like this place ub in s an invidious light as regards the public. . The real position is as follows: At a 1 meeting of my association it was decided j to approach the merchants with a view t to discussing the tariffs, and sec if we a could arrive at' an amicable agreement.
