It culminated in a i. resolution being unanimously adopted to send a telegram to the gallant French army valiantly fighting at Verdun, declaring that separate fronts no longer ' exist, and that the allies are fighting one common enemy on common fronts. The Cologne newspaper Gazette lugubriously comments on recent speeches by Mr.-Asquith and the Russian Foreign Minister.. It complains that they used the language of conquerors dictating terms of peace to a defeated enemy. Germany, it adds, must realise that the British and Russian Parliaments support their leaders, because the speeches were vociferously applauded.
