DIVOROE APPLICATIONS.

TWO DEGREES GRANTED

Two decrees absolute in divorce cases were granted by Mr. Justice Cooper yesterday. In the case of Grace Godwin (Mr. A. G. Quartley) againßt A. E. G. Godwin, a telegram was received from the respondent consenting to an order for permanent alimony. at thfl. 12s 63. per week. An order, accordingly, was. attached to the decree. With the decreo in the case of | Ethel Madge Keesing (Mr. A. L. Denniston) v. Joshua. C. Keesing, the petitioner was granted custody of her children. An endeavour was made by Mr. R. P. Towle, counsel for the petitioner in the divorce case of Ruby Urlich v. George Stove Urlich, to satisfy Mr, Justice Cooper's requirement,- and produce evidence in corroboration of the statements of his client mid her mother as to the cruelty and habitual drunkenness of respondent. The petitioner was recalled, and swore that | duriny tlieir Tesidencb" in"Aiicli;latid respondent did not allow anyone to corfie to tlieir house other than his. and her own relatives, and did not allow her to visit auy- | body. Consequently her had 'no knowledge of his habits. | One of the parties' various landlords testified to respondent's non-payment of rent, and also that he had seen respondent . under the influence of liquor. I His Honor pointed out that the proof of i cruelty still rested upon the. testimony of petitioner and her mother. It seemed strange, in view of the statements that j respondent was repeatedly drunk while I carrying on his stores at Ulorit and Kaiwaka, that outside evidence of the fact could not be obtained. He would, however, take time t<f consider the matter, and'if he could give the Detitkmer relief, consistently with the principles laid down by the Court, he would do so. If it wero not that respondent was in ga<ol, and unable to attend, lie would have no hesitation in the matter.
