DOOR OF HOPE APPEAL.

Sir,—The past year has been an exceptionally hard one. Even in normal times the cost of providing the bare necessities of life for the subjects of our care is always a dreary problem to solve. Unaided, except by voluntary contribution, our earnings in the laundry and various donations from tradespeople, we have struggled steadily forward— house the homeless, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, comfort the desolate and miserable who have been swept our way by the tide of misfortune. We know of homes where food is scarce and little sobbing children feel the pressure of want. We see the tears of white-faced mothers who have reached the end of their resources and physical strength. At this season for helping the poor and needy we appeal for aid to provide better fare for many who are strangers to comfort or plenty. Donations will be gratefully received by Mr. J.
