INFANTRY WANTED.

ELEVENTH REINFORCEMENTS. SOME ACCEPTED MEN XOT READY. THE WEEK'S RECRUITING. The weekly progress return issued by the Defence authorities yesterday showed that the men accepted for service in the dis trict during the past seven days numbered 177. The local authorities are stil". troubled in regard to the infantry draft for the eleventh reinforcements. The number required by Tuesday next is 415 and the number already accepted is 583. Of the latter are 56 non commissioned officers. bile there is thus a surplus a large number of men have intimated to the local authorities that they cannot go into camp until January and February and therefore some difficulty is being experienced in getting a sufficient number of infantrymen. The drafts for all other arms of the service have been filled. A medical examination of recruits willing to serve in the mounted rifles and infantry branches will be held at the Drill Hall this morning. The numbers of men accepted for service in the various groups in the Auckland military district are shown in the following table: —

The men registered in arms of the service other than mounted rifles and infantry have been requested by areolar to transfer to the anna mentioned.
