NEW-BORN TWINS KILLED.
MARRIED WOMAN ARRESTED.

Mrs. Mary Ann Peid, of Islington, was | placed under arrest yesterday on a warrant j charging her with the murder of new-born , —male and female. The information j is that Mrs. Reid, who has been living I apart from her husband for over two j years, left the house of her parents, Mr. j i ami Mrs. Weeks, of Islington, on Saturday j •■ night. She was absent for some time, and ; on returning confessed to her mother that ! I twins had been born in the bush. She in- ■ dicated where they would be found, and j when her parents went out thsy found ! that each child had a strip of linen tied j i round its neck. ! At the inquest to-day Mary Hannah ! Weeks, mother of Mrs. Reid, stated that j she resided with her husband at Hornby. j j Mary Ann Reid was aged 29 or 30 years. i She had been married for about eigh% i I years, and had four children living with I | her. Mrs. Keid had been living with | witness for the past 11 months. Mrs. j ! Reid s husband was living. He had left i her about two years and a-half ago. ! Mr. Bishop (coroner) :He deserted her? Witness : Yes. Continuing, she said j ! that Reid had deserted his wife once before, when she had two children, but j sh«» forgave him, and they lived together. They had two more children. He again deserted her. the last time when she had a child only a few months old. Mr. Bishop : Do you know where he is now ? Witness : No. The coroner recorded a verdict that de- | ceased, being two newiy-born illegitimate ' infants, male and female, were killed by j their mother. ===== i
