CHIEF OBSTACLE TO THE ALLIES' ADVANCE.
ACRES OF STOUT BARBED WIRE.
FRENCH FIRING CUTTERS FROM THEIR RIFLES. ' (Received October 3, 0 p.m.) \ London, October 2. The French newspapers are adopting a more confident tone in discussing the allies' efforts to pierce the western front. The main difficulty is acres of stout barbed wire, frequently electrified. The French are now firing cutters from their rifles with good effect. Large numbers of Germans captured in the recent offensive have arrived. King George and M. Poincare have exchanged congratulations on the joint success in the west, and expressed reciprocal admiration at the exploits of the French and British armies.
