As a preliminary to "canvassing week," on October 18 to 25, '. the; Canvassing Committee of - the Patriotic , Associationhas been interviewing a number of city firms with & view to. securing their assistance for the fund, and their representations have met with a gratifying response. Cheques received by members of the committee are paid into the Town Hall daily, but the full results of the committees I efforts are not apparent, as -several of the donations which it has secured have been paid directly into either the Mayor's. Morton ... ...•„ ... 200 0 0 To facilitate the work of the Canvassing Committee during canvassing week, the city has been divided into 25 . districts, and a . small sub-committee, with a convener, has been appointed for each district. . It : is hoped that -the conveners will obtain helpers, who will subdivide the district allotted to ' them, and have i everything., in readiness to commence the canvass on {.he morning of October 18 and continue until every house; has been visited. The Mayors of. boroughs, the chairmen of county councils, road boards, and town boards throughout the province have been asked to undertake the work in their respective districts. CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. FURTHER SUBSCRIPTIONS. A contribution of £150 from the Hon. G. Fowlds was acknowledged on Saturday. This subscription will be paid in monthly subscriptions of £10. In addition, Mr. Fowlds has given a valuable pair of carriage horses, prize-winners at the Auckland agricultural show, and a double set of harness to be disoosed of on behalf of the fund.
