AMENDMENT OF LAW WANTED
OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Sunday. Delegates from various -women's societies interested in reform and rescue work waited upon the Hon. Dr. McNab, Minister for Justice, yesterday, and asked him to present certain petitions to the House of Representatives. The deputation complained of the frequency of offences against children and inadequacy of punishment meted out to offenders, and asked that the law be amended so as to, provide substantial minimum penalties, particularly in the case of second and third offences.
Dr. McNab expressed sympathy with the objects of the deputation, but pointed out that it would be impossible for Parliament to deal with the petitions this session. * ">
