[from OUB OWN correspondents.] CAMBRIDGE. QUEEN CARNIVAL The sum of £150 was realised from the sale of goods at "'Paddys Market," in the main street, on Saturday last. The amount raised represents 12,000 votes for the commercial candidate for. the Queen Carnival. Mr. F. Potts, the contractor for the erection of cheese plant buildings for the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company, has almost completed the work, and the manufacture of cheese will be commenced in a week or so. There is an abundance of pasture foist x'k just now ; in fact, farmers generally say they do not remember a season in which "there has been more prolific growth. PAEROA. BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Paeros Borough Council was held on Tuesday. As wandering cattle at night are becoming a great nuisance, it was decided to instruct the police to prosecute offenders. The National Bank forwarded a declaration of gold purchased within the borough for the month ending September 12. as 1137.10802. ROTORUA. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The quarterly meeting of the Rotorua / Chamber of Commerce was held on Wedr; nesday last, Mr.? J. N. McLean presiding. A dis* cussion took place in regard to the Botorua Cottage Hospital, which has been closed to civilian cases in order that it may be utilised for military patients. The chairman said that he understood . from Mr. ~ McDowell, the president, who had interviewed the Minister for Internal Affairs and Dr. Valintine on the subject, but . Who was prevented by indisposition from attending the meeting of the chamber, that the Government would see that proper provision was made for local cases.
