"MILLIONS OF FLIES."
PLAGUE IN GALLIPOLI.
There are millions of flies in Gallipoli. They rise from the ground in clouds as the troops move about. The soldiers call them '' green bottles." The proximity of so many nnburied corps« of animals and men, says the Alexandria correspondent of the Melbourne Argus, has now made the fly problem very serious. As yet the unit* are free from any epidemic, but the gradually-increasing heat is causing the authorities to regard the situation carefully. Creosol and petroleum are being sprayed in the trenches, but great attention has to be exercised to avoid impregnating the food. The wounded are being protected from the fly nuisance bv mosquito nets and the liberal use of the spray. When Sir Frederick Treves was in Alexandria a few weeks ago,' he commented upon the fly pest. and, strangely enough, he contracted a complaint Com this source that has temporarily incapacitated him.
