CHARGE AGAINST KIDMAN.
INDICTMENT VALID.
Melbourne, September 17.
The High Court has delivered judgment in the conspiracy case against Arthur Kidman ana others. The Full Bench of six Judges held that the indictment was ' valid in common law. Five dissented from the Chief Justice's opinion that under the Constitution a law could not be passed after an act had been committed, declaring the person who committed it guilty of a crime and liable to punishment.
Kidman was charged with having put in false tenders for Government contracts in connection with the feeding of the troops. It was stated that tenders were put M under fictitious names, the idea being .. at if a man were not successful under hus own name one of the tenders ne had put m under a false name might get the contract.
