FIGHT OF PATROLS IN EAST AFRICA.
HOSTILE FORCE PUT TO FLIGHT.
(Received September 17. 9.55 p.m.)
London, September 16. The War Office reports that 60 British and 100 Indian infantry surprised a strong enemy patrol on Tuesday, eight miles southward of Matau, East Africa. After a sharp fight the enemy fled, leaving one white and 31 natives dead, besides wounded The British casualties were three dead and eight wounded. Rifles and ammunition were captured.
