THE COMING CARNIVAL.

FORMATION OF COMMITTEES.

The Executive Committee of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association met yesterday afternoon, -when Mr. George Elliot presided. There were also present: The Mayoress, Mrs. J. H. Gunson, Mrs. W. H. Partes, Messrs. C. R. Munro, J. S. Milne, A. S. Bankart, S. Milrov. N. A. Nathan. A. G. Lunn, H. Horton,*V.- J. Lamer, C. Rhodes, J. F. Ewen, and E. Phelan. The Organising Committee recommended that a Platform Committee should be appointed as follows :The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, Bishop Averill, Monsignor Brodie, Revs. I. Jolly, R. Inglis, W. G. Monckton, C. H. Laws, C. H. Garland, E. P. Blamires, G. Bond. Messrs. W. A. Beddoe, W. Spragg, and the Hon. George Fowlds. It was desired that members of the committee should visit the various centres within the province and address public meetings to further the objects of the association, urging the necessity for cc-operation and organisation. Further recommendations were made as follows — That the following gentlemen be requested to form a Pnblicitv Committee :—Messrs. H. Horton, T. W. Levs, W. Blomfield. A. Cleave" "That the whole of the school children of the city and suburbs be organised to hold a floral fete one day during carnival week, and that Mr. C, R. Munro be requested to undertake the organisation of the same." " That all art unions be held at the latter part of the carnival period, and that ail raffles, art unions, etc., undertaken by - Carnival Queen Committees be supervised by members of the Organising Committee, i and that all drawings of raffles be made in a single official place." The report was adopted. The Dominion Picture Theatre Company wrote offering to co-operate in the Picture ! Day movement and to donate the gross takings at the Princess and Queen's Theatres on that day to the patriotic funds.The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to invito other picture theatre proprietors to make the same concession.

A letter was received from Lady Godley thanking the committee for a donation of £150 towirds the equipment of the convalescent home at Alexandria. Lady Godley stated that she was successful "in ob- j taining the use of a house next to the home, and the institution now provided accommodation for 60 men.
